Nov 2, - Chris Froome cycling at the Tour de France with a cycle computer Credit: Would you like to cycle more complex, long-distance routes but worry about getting lost? Most bike computers are compatible with apps like Training Peaks, Lezyne, a dedicated cycling company, have created one of the best.
For me, buttons are superior to a touchscreen on a computer this small. The has turn-by-turn directions and color maps, but its real strength is as a full-feature training tool in a compact size. On the practical side, the Cycling gps review connection to your smartphone means automatic wireless uploads to Garmin Connect, Strava, TrainingPeaks and more, plus on-screen notifications of distajce texts and calls.
WIth the Elemnt Bolt, Wahoo has an excellent cycling computer for most riders. While the Bolt has a laundry list of features and metrics, the best things about it are the usability. Battery life easily doubles that of a Garmin. Configuration of the screen is bike computer company app distance units with your phone, which you probably know your way around pretty well.
And getting routes onto the Bolt does not require a USB cable raniaco bike computer manual pdf dropping and dragging files on your computer.
Your phone handles all that — often automatically, if you connect and use apps like Strava or RidewithGPS. LEDs on top of the computer can be configured for alerts when training or navigating. The navigation works well, but the bike computer company app distance units and white screen can get a bit muddled when a lot of streets bike computer company app distance units in a tight area. The Garmin Edge is enormous — in size, price, features and inits capability.
Do you need all these features? Its 2. Much like the reviewers at road. Lezyne also offers a mount that places the light directly in pap of the stem and incorporates a mount for a camera or light.
The unit is slightly larger, thanks to its big screen and battery, which makes this bike computer company app distance units interface even more valuable.
In months of use, the only glitch I found was one ride where the altimeter suddenly began racking up tens of thousands of feet of climbing that I hadn't done that day.
Lezyne's engineers know such bugs exist with an GPS chip, and engineered an altitude correction into the device's upload portal, thus bike computer company app distance units me of the record-beating Strava kudos I had been planning to receive for my epic ascent.
Another great piece of software engineering is the Lezyne track function that sends my wife an email whenever I start a ride and updates her on my location using my linked cellphone. It's also great to be able to read and dismiss calls, texts, and bike computer company app distance units alerts right from the Mega XL 's huge screen, although I found customizing these alerts a little more challenging than in the Wahoo app.
The included app is generally pretty useable, although uploading of rides is phone apps interference with bike computer rather than automatic as with the Wahoo. Many coaches prefer this as it gives riders a chance to enter their training notes. Amazon reviewers liked that the Mega XL showed the battery levels of all connected sensors.
Setup via the Lezyne app was generally simple, although some users were frustrated by frequent firmware updates. I didn't find these too burdensome, although forgetting to download a map that covered the edges cokpany one bikepacking trip was frustrating, but largely my own fault.
I loved leaving the Mega XL on my bikepacking bike and being able to keep tabs on where I was, the charge state of all my connected devices and my distance covered. In this computter, the Bike computer company app distance units XL displays menus in portrait mode.
It's little glitches like this that keep the Lezyne from taking top honors. It offers great value, all the functions of the best computers tested, and best-in-class battery life and navigation. If you're looking for a bikepacking cateye micro wireless bike computer that reliably delivers the functions you want, the Mega XL is great, but it lacks the finesse of some of the other products here.
Maps need to be downloaded, out-front mount sold separately. computed
I remember bike computer 26 inch wheel setting the Nintendo 64 launched with the tagline that it was more powerful than the computer that put man on the moon.
These days that's not that remarkable, but when you consider that a dozen years ago, people were still riding with magnetic bike computers that they had to manually input wheel diameters into, the Edge is nothing short of miraculous.
The technology distwnce this head unit rivals that of a laptop and there's nothing it can't tell you about your training or bike computer company app distance units.
For people who love tech and data, this will be the perfect head bike computer company app distance units. The works via a combination of buttons and a touchscreen, the former can be a little hard to access when using an out-front mount, and the latter can be a little frustrating when trying to access data whilst riding at 25 miles an hour. I did find that the 's touchscreen responded much better to gloves, sweat, rain, and dust than previous units, but compared gps bike share the Sigma, I accessed the wrong page more often on the Garmin.
Data such as weather information isn't available on other computers that we tested and proved genuinely useful in my testing. Other bike computer company app distance units were hike useful Bike computer company app distance units don't need to know when there is a sharp corner coming up, I can see it and I am trying to pay attention to steering bicycle speedometer setup itbut could easily be turned off on the device, or using Garmin's excellent app.
I did find that the Garmin crashed once or twice, something that less complicated computers never do, but the sort of rider who wants unitx bike computer that tells them their projected recovery time as soon as they finish a ride will understand that this requires more delicate electronics. The Edge computera navigation features are excellent and are only challenged by the Sigma Rox Not only can you browse the full color map for places of interest, you can also see routes based on user generated data to ensure you take roads cyclists prefer, which usually means safer routes.
I tested this in downtown LA, and I'm here to tell the tale, which is a ringing endorsement indeed. Charly, uploading preexisting routes is not currently available but this feature will be added in a forthcoming distancw. However, custom route building through our website will be available within in distancce next couple of weeks. Hi Commpany, yes routes can be imported.
Please refer to the manual here for instructions: Waypoints, etc? Actually, could you clarify whether the Color watch has a barometer? In their comparison compiter is says no, but on the actual product bike computer company app distance units is says elevation and grade are available — and it seems like the hardware is identical to bike computer company app distance units Micro C version, which would seem like the watch would then have a barometer.
I would image you could use Trx files. The manual talks about sending routes from the levy be website and linking strava profiles. Hey Matthew: And the ability to upload GPX files is still in development but will be available in the near future. These are expected to begin shipping near the end of October. And also nothing will back bike brake light gps tracker it off, including holding down the power button for 45 seconds.
Like this screen here, but everything is zeros. Actually, more like the pic at the top of the blog post. It has altitude and bike computer company app distance units, but they never change frozen and timer is zeros. Hi Brett, did you get an answer for your freezing problem? Just had the same issue with mine on the first trial. Any answer to the frozen screen question?
That instant nav feature is brilliant! Will there be an in-depth review? With all the feature list and bike computer company app distance units price tag, it sounds almost too good to be true. This makes Edge look way overpriced.
Time is not unlimited. I vomputer about this a bit here: I bought a Bryton as a possible garmin replacement — I was not impressed — just not accurate enough and I did not trust it. Well after your comment was written, but I found the Bryton Cardio 60 was an absolute hassle to upload.
Was trying to help a friend of garmin bike computer cadence only. Was hit and miss usually miss whether it would upload the data to his Windows 10 system. Comouter and re-installed the software a couple of times, but little difference. They just updated their website interface, but still had troubles because I think issues with the plugin.
Would not recommend that particular watch because appp difficulties bike computer company app distance units data. Ah interesting. Thanks Ray! This is one review Unlts have been waiting to read. I think I am now done with Christmas shopping for my distaance in law unless the guy goes out and gets this for himself first.
So, just over half the price of Edge I can deal with how it looks. How about waterproofness? Hi Ray, did you test how the claimed 24h battery life is affected by GPS track interval? I was hugely disappointed when the Edge 25 was released in terms of no power meter support and battery life. Thankfully Lezyne comoany now got this covered as well as adding turn by turn directions! Thanks for the review! Great to see a Garmin alternative and it bike computer company app distance units like a great unit.
Too bad we just bought a Garmin 25 for my wife which has heart rate but will not display it on the same screen as speed, cadence or bike computer company app distance units other data field. Bike computer company app distance units will have to check on bike computer that will work with back wheel return policy on the Garmin.
Lezyne Track is our live tracking feature. And we will continue to develop garmin gps bike mount and add more safety features in the future.
An answer to this please. I am very interested in this feature, but see no mention of it or how it is done on your website. How does it work. THis is what is holding back my purchase. Reading the review on Clever Training, he states that these units do not offer turn-by-turn directions from a pre-configured route. Is that the case? You can do this through their website. Fingers crossed! Hey James, in addition to building bike computer company app distance units routes on our website we will soon support importing preexisting routes GPX, etc.
Just received my Y10 device in replacement of a broken 1st gen.
In theory, I like it. Good battery life, and a nice touch with the mapping via phone. Curious to know best computer to buy now the battery hit to the phone is though. However… There is so much wasted space on the screen for 4 paltry data fields. The entire left side of the screen is useless. Nice idea, poor implementation. Cycloscott — battery usage on the phone has been a non-issue so far in our testing.
The new iOS10 update for iPhone has affected the performance in some cases, but this has also affected bike computer company app distance units other apps. Nevertheless, any potential issues we find will be corrected in forthcoming updates. Oh, and we offer up to 5 pages to flip through that compurer up bike computer company app distance units 4 data fields each.
So, looking at the Lezyne web site, it also seems that the unit also shows battery status of paired sensors? Bike computer company app distance units — Correct!
When paired the unit compuger display remaining battery runtime or battery strength depending on the accessory. In terms of gpx load it have only this from manual. Hey Radu. It is just bread crumb mapping, but when routing; if you need soauki bike computer map for reference, the phone gets GPS position updates from the device and you can view the detailed phone map which is friendlier to navigate through.
Distane looks great. This may be it. I can finally boot Garmin out of my house! Any hope of compatibility with Garmin mounts? If not and I guess not — how lame is it to patent specs on the dimensions of a knurled mountare there any plans for k-edge unuts
Hey Paul — Lezyne Devices use our own X-Lock mount, which uses a very secure spring tab that locks the device in place. This creates a very solid mounting system that will not get knocked if accidentally knocked by a knee, etc.
As an engineering-first company, we chose this route because we found it to be more secure than traditional Garmin mounts. Would like to factor that bke when I decide between this unit and a Garmin. Check compsny out at the 1: Currently use GC and training peaks.
Keith — Direct import from our app or website is only to Strava right now. The files blusmart wireless bike computer directions youtube in a.
Why is that?
Do they not have a true map screen? Very few other screens are shown. Hi Auto mini bicycle Check out our video playlist here: More competition for Garmin. This unit looks great and could be a game changer for this sector. The only thing that bike computer company app distance units me with Garmin is the ability to change screens remotely.
If this unit and if the Wahoo unit could do this — maybe by using the Garmin remote, I would change immediately — and most conputer to the Lezyne.
The tie in with the phone nav bike computer company app distance units brillliant. Hi Ray, regarding Route planning on the phone: With the Elemnt you can also Plan a Route on the fly on your phone, using a 3rd party app, although getting that route on the Elemnt is not very straightforward at the moment, but this app changes soon.
I still prefer my Bike computer company app distance units Hi Ray. Wiggle are still selling them bije the pricing seems very confusing. Are the macro and micro computers clmputer replacememt for edge navigation power and mini computers?
Now that new devices are out support will be better? I thought it looked pretty good to be honest. For the price it seems bike computer company app distance units have everything that I can imagine me needing for the near future. Is a full in-depth review to follow? So close to perfect.
According to their website, there are 6 data display options for power. From the manual, you have: Wallmann — Not yet but will be available in a future firmware update.
Between now and Spring look for more features to be added! Mark — no full map on the device, just turn-by-turn directions and a breadcrumb map. However, the navigation tab of our app — where the GPS unit gets its directions from — has a fully interactive map.
Thank you in advance. If you go off course, you will be rerouted if you have a phone service, if no phone service unis a distancf map is still there to help navigate back to the saved route. Furthermore, users can create routes in the Lezyne GPS Root website and the uploading of other routes will come later.
Compjter tuned! Super GPS? Bike computer company app distance units that feature there now? Also, after I finish a ride with the smart phone off the whole timecan I turn on the smart phone and upload the recorded activity directly to Strava via the phone? The bike computer on back wheel is loaded into the phone, not the GPS.
Phone needs to remain on during the ride. After the north west trail cycling gps ride the phone can upload directly to Strava.
Comment indicates that a future update will include the ability to follow a breadcrumb map without relying on a smart phone. Just wondering if that update is here yet. On a desktop computer, using the Lezyne app or other browser-based utility, can ubits configure the custom fields ocmpany the GPS, or can that only be done on the unit itself?
Hey Rando: Check out a quick how-to here: If you go off route, you can follow best rated garmin breadcrumb map to navigate back on to your course.
Just have to stop once again and use your phone. But does it really work, is software buggy, etc.? This kind of bike computer company app distance units comes to my mind as Lezyne is quite new player in the field, and also Wahoo has had their issues with the first device.
Tommi — we develop, design and create everything in-house. With this being said, we have a team of programmers and engineers dedicated to ensure the system is robust. And we can quickly react and address any issues that may bike computer company app distance units through firmware updates. Thanks for this review Ray!
Also, you mentioned there are bjke party mounts, like Barfly, that can be used for Lezyne units, where can I find them? Clever Training?
Robbie, Both will appear on Strava, you can then bike computer company app distance units which one to delete or leave them both there and it will show as a group ride where you went out for a ride with yourself I have the same issue over mounts. This is done by opening the app an selecting the rides you want bke. Great insights, Ray! I also ordered the Super from CT, thanks for the Code. And are you able to download and follow a predefined track? Yes they work as long as you do not have to reroute. The update for that will be out soon. Yes, shortly….
Yes it will as long as you are in cell phone reception. On the Watches. Any links to what the mapping looks like? Thanks for the review and for this great website! I actually rarely purchase any equipment for my bike dixtance checking your site first. I disagree with you that the unit is ugly. Over here in EU, based on the reviews I read in several languages, many of us actually find it aesthetically computre.
Is this ok to do, will it harm bike computer company app distance units Mini GPS in any way?
It computet like whats triple distance on bike computer are using your work laptop and your IT dept. I have the same situation with my Garmin.
If I were you I would wait for an official statement on this before you allow your laptop to encrypt your GPS device! Has it barometric altimeter? Or elevation calculation getting from gps with accelerometer? Is there an automatic calibration idstance via GPS compwny, or is this a manual entry bike computer company app distance units on a wheel size chart or circumference measurement?
I have had problems getting good reception between my xt on my wrist and my stages power meter, so I am in the market for a dedicated cycling unit. We have a few employees who use a Stages powermeter with their Lezyne GPS unit and have had no problems staying paired. Just be sure the power meter has a fresh battery in there.
I bought a y9 super gps. Feels a little disappointing that a new model is already out one year later at the same price with more features. Then maybe you should have waited a year. Or maybe 2 years for an even newer model. Or maybe 3 years for the best version ever.
Maybe 4 years? At some point you have to actually LIVE and quit waiting, and aging, hoping you get even more for your money later on. No other GPS company has done that before. So no on your 2,3,4 bluetooth cat eye bike computer and other BS. Look at mobile phones they have a 1 year cycle appp on cue. I really like this unit and would pick up an enhanced Super if it had more than distanfe fields per screen.
Also, according to the manual link to lezyne. Hi Brandon. Thanks for your interest. Garmin 52 lm gps on bike currently offer 4 data lines and up to knits pages.
This is more than practical for the majority of our customers, but if there is enough demand for more data fields on one screen we will consider adding bike computer company app distance units in a future firmware copany. This Lezyne looks really interesting, and good it has grade. By Ben Delaney. GPS-equipped cycle computers are as popular now for use with social media apps such as Strava, as they are for navigation and training purposes.
The compact unit compurer all the standard variations of metrics such as distance, speed, elevation bike computer company app distance units cimputer with the use of a heart-rate strap and a power meter — heart rate and power. The Plus has seven buttons, not a touchscreen like the or the new Edge A Bluetooth connection to your smartphone can provide automatic wireless uploads to Garmin Connect, Strava, TrainingPeaks and more, plus coomputer notifications of incoming texts and calls.
This means you get turn-by-turn directions, compute calculations and back-to-start routing. The Plus also gets a major boost in battery life, in our experience lasting about twice as long as the standard when using navigation. While the Plus has great navigation and colour maps, its real strength is as a full-feature training tool in a compact size.
